1. How does the AR1440 compare to the older MA or MH series?

The AR1440 is the direct successor to the MA1440. The biggest jump is in speed and motion control. Yaskawa redesigned the arm to be slimmer and more symmetric, which means it has a much smaller “interference radius.” Basically, it can get into tighter spots and move between weld points faster than the older models, which directly helps you cut down on cycle times.

2. Can we mount this robot on a linear track or 7th-axis slider?

Absolutely. In fact, that is one of its strengths. The AR1440 is fully compatible with our 7th-axis linear tracks. Because it uses the YRC1000 controller, the track can be controlled as a fully synchronized external axis. This allows the robot to weld extra-long workpieces, like truck frames or large tanks, without losing path accuracy.

3. Is the 12kg payload enough for a heavy water-cooled torch?

Yes, and then some. Most standard arc welding robots in this class have a 6kg or 10kg limit. By bumping the payload to 12kg, Yaskawa has ensured that even if you’re using a heavy-duty water-cooled torch with a touch sensor or a laser tracking system, the arm won’t be “struggling” or losing its high-speed acceleration capabilities.

4. What welding power sources is it compatible with?

The AR1440 is “brand agnostic.” While it integrates perfectly with Yaskawa’s own power sources, we regularly set these up with Fronius, Miller, Lincoln Electric, and SKS. Using the YRC1000’s digital interface, the robot can control wire feed speed, voltage, and gas flow directly from the teach pendant.

5. Does the “hollow arm” design actually reduce maintenance?

It does. In older robot designs, the welding lead (the “umbilical cord”) would hang off the side and often snag on the jig or wear out from constant rubbing. With the AR1440, the cables are routed through the center of the arm. This keeps the lead stable during high-speed movements, which means you aren’t replacing expensive cables nearly as often.

6. We have a very tight floor plan. Will the AR1440 fit?

Most likely. It has a very slim base (only about 300mm square). Because the cables come out of the back of the base rather than the side, you can mount these robots very close to one another or right up against the edge of a welding cell. If you’re really tight on space, we can also discuss ceiling-mounting options.
